Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, President Trump announced a one year delay for the REAL ID drivers license requirement.
The REAL ID, or Federal ID, is going to be required for anyone traveling on an airplane in the United States. The law was set to take effect on October 1, 2020, but is now being pushed back until October 1, 2021.
“States across the country are temporarily closing or restricting access to DMVs,” said Acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Chad Wolf. “Extending the deadline will also allow the Department to work with Congress to implement needed changes to expedite the issuance of REAL IDs.”
Congress passed the REAL ID Act in 2005. The law established minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards.
In West Virginia, if your drivers license has a gold star in the upper right hand corner, it is a REAL-ID. For more information about REAL-IDs, or how you get one please click the links below:

The safety of Yeager Airport employees, vendors and passengers is our top priority. When the COVID-19 outbreak started, Airport Director, Nick Keller, and other Airport leaders began meeting with Kanawha County health officials twice a week. Following a meeting with health officials on Sunday, March 22nd, Yeager Airport has implemented the following additional measures to limit the spread of COVID-19:
The terminal is only open to ticketed passengers. If you are picking someone up, we ask that you wait outside. If you have questions about a flight or need to book a flight, please call your airline directly. You can also visit your airline’s website.
Only operation essential employees will be on Airport property. These essential employees are working in teams in two-week shifts while a complete “back-up” team is working from home. This gives us a reserve workforce available to come in if an employee is exposed to COVID-19 and has to quarantine.
A number of our Airport staff members are working from home. For those that still have to come into work to perform essential duties, temperatures screening will take place upon arrival. Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 or above will be sent home. We are also asking all airport tenants to take the same measures with their employees.
Yeager Airport is going to remain open and operational. Air Traffic Controllers and TSA, and essential Airport tenants also have contingency and continuity plans in place to keep Yeager Airport open.

During this unprecedented time, we understand, for some, not traveling is not an option. CRW staff is cleaning and disinfecting the terminal around the clock. Yeager Airport is going to remain open for those who must travel. Here are some tips the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends to stay healthy while traveling.
1. Social Distancing: Stay at least six feet away from other people. Yeager Airport has three different gate areas in the terminal, with a number of seats at each gate.
- If you order food from the post-security restaurant, please eat at one of the seating areas throughout the terminal.
2. Practice good hygiene:
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or use the inside of your elbow.
- Throw used tissues and disinfecting wipes in the trash.
- Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- If you can’t wash your hands, use hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol. We have put additional hand sanitizing stations throughout the terminal.
3. You can bring the following items through TSA
- Hand Sanitizer
- Disinfecting Wipes
- Face Masks
- You may ask your TSA officer to change gloves
4. Wipe it down: Our staff is working around the clock to clean and disinfect the terminal, with heavy attention being paid to high touch point areas, including doors, doorknobs, armrests, the TSA checkpoint, etc. However, using your own disinfecting wipes before using a chair, or opening a door is still good practice.
5. Clean your devices: Cell phones, iPads, and other electronic devices carry all kinds of germs. Wipe your devices down multiple times while traveling. They can also be placed in plastic bags at the TSA checkpoint.
6. Avoid contact with those who are sick: Airplanes have high efficiency (HEPA) filters that trap harmful particles. The CDC has said airplanes are low risk for contracting COVID-19; however, you should keep as far away from other passengers as possible.
